Program Overview

The MACC program is designed to equip students with the knowledge they need to successfully pass the CPA exam and help them obtain employment in public accounting. Additionally, the program develops the analytical and communication skills in students needed to advance in modern organizations.

The MACC consists of 30 semester hours (10 graduate classes) of course work. The hours are divided into two components: required courses (including a capstone) and elective courses. Students attend the program full-time, as the majority of MACC courses are offered during the day. Courses are delivered in person at The Dubois Center at UNC Charlotte Center City in Uptown Charlotte. Classes are held year-round, during two 15-week semesters (fall and spring) and our summer sessions. The typical entry point for students is during the fall term.

Graduates of the Master of Accountancy program should be qualified for careers and advancement in taxation, public accounting, managerial accounting and corporate financial accounting. Students should be able to pursue licensure in states requiring 150 credit hours.

Accounting is Big Data

  • Analytics skills and capabilities are a significant part the accountant’s toolkit
  • New hires are expected to have strong skills not only in spreadsheets but also data wrangling tools (i.e., Alteryx) and visualization tools (i.e., Tableau or Power BI)
  • In addition, students are expected to be comfortable working with large data sets stored in databases like SQL Server and ERP systems like SAP
  • Coursework in the MACC program will build and develop your analytical skills and prepare you for a strong start
