Before graduating with a Masters of Accountancy in May of 2018, Sang Choi already secured a full-time position at Deloitte.  As Sang shares, "The best part of my academic experience so far has been the Meet the Professionals event. It is a recruiting event where more than sixteen firms visit the campus ...and the experience is invaluable, from discovering new firms to making important connections for future interviews." Choi explains that students in the Belk College of Business will have access to endless opportunities like this, due to the strong presence it has in the Charlotte business community.

What degree are you pursuing and why?
I am pursuing Master of Accountancy degree. I chose an accounting major in the undergraduate program because of the strong stability of accounting related jobs. I initially didn’t plan to get a master’s degree. However, throughout the recruiting season during my senior year, I realized the endless job opportunities that come with holding a CPA license. That’s when I decided to pursue the Master of Accountancy degree.

Why did you choose the Belk College of Business over others?
I had attended the Belk College of Business for my undergraduate degree. Since I had such a positive experience, it only made sense to continue for the master’s degree. I had most of the graduate professors during my undergraduate classes, so I was confident in their ability to prepare me for the CPA exams and my future career. Upon further research and comparing our program with other schools, I felt UNC Charlotte’s Belk College of Business had the strongest return on investment, the high CPA exam pass rate, ample employment opportunities, and educational and professional development. Additionally, I received several scholarships and a graduate assistant position for financial assistance.

What activities are you involved in when not working/studying?
I don’t want to sound boring but I haven’t had much free time away from working or studying. During my undergraduate degree, I worked full time as a server and had a total of 5 part-time and full-time internships. During my master’s degree, I am juggling full graduate level courses, graduate assistantship, tutoring, and studying for CPA exams. However, I do try to play soccer or grill and cook new recipes whenever I have free time. While I may not have the most exciting leisure time, I will be starting a full-time position at Deloitte immediately upon graduation with zero debt.

What has been the best part of your academic experience so far?
The best part of my academic experience so far has been the Meet the Professionals event. It is a recruiting event where more than sixteen firms visit the campus to either give a formal presentation or personal meet and greet. The event lasts two hours over four days and the experience is invaluable, from discovering new firms to making important connections for future interviews.
